2022-23 Pre-Season Swimming Options~Boys & Girls Team

For those interested in pre-season for both Girls and Boys High School Swim Teams, we have taken the time to break down different options that work best for you in your individual situation. The unlimited Pre-season option would be for those athletes who will be signed up through Valparaiso Swim Club and USA Swimming for the Fall/Winter season. This allows us not to be limited by a number of practices throughout the week. The practice schedule can be found on the calendar on the website If you are not interested in signing up with Valparaiso Swim Club, you will fall under the IHSAA Limited contact pre-season option. This group will start on Monday, September 12th (The week after Popcorn Fest). We will follow the IHSAA Limited Contact policies, limiting us to meeting twice a week for two hours each meeting. The only requirement is you MUST have a physical on file with the VHS athletic office to participate. We will continue that until each IHSAA official season starts for both Girls (October 24th) and Boys (November 7th), at which point we are no longer limited in our practices. If you are not interested in pre-season, then the 3rd option would be to report for your respective teams' first official day of practice. 3 Pre-Season Options (In a review from above)

  1. Sign up with Valparaiso Swim Club & USA Swimming (there is a fee associated with this), allowing you to start on Tuesday, August 23rd, with no practice restrictions. You can find registration information here Your group will be High School Fall/Winter - for age group: 14-19. I want to mention that while there is a fee associated ($127.00) with signing up through Valpo Swim Club, the cost is discounted to reflect how you only swim pre-season and after High school. The requirement for fundraising and volunteering is also waived for this Fall/Winter season. If you would like to do pre-season through Valparaiso Swim Club, but finically it is something that might be difficult, please see coach Nellessen, and we will set up a meeting with the club board to work something out.

  2. Follow the IHSAA Limited Contact pre-season program. Due to not being registered with VSC and USA Swimming, we are limited to the IHSAA rules on practice times. Therefore we will only be meeting 2 times a week for no more than 2 hours each session. Currently, we have it set up for Mondays and Wednesdays starting Monday, September 12th. This will be the schedule until the season officially begins for each team, at which point the practice time restrictions are lifted, and we will go to a more traditional 5-6 days, multiple practices a day schedule.

  3. No Pre-season at all. We will see you on the first official day of the season, Girls (October 24th) and Boys (November 7th), at 2:45 pm in the aquatic center.

*Please note that pre-season is not required to be on the swim team. However, like everything else, the better prepared you are, the easier things will be. If you are new to swimming or joining the swim team for the first time, we recommend that you do the limited contact schedule so you are not overwhelmed. You can always sign-up for Valparaiso Swim Club if you choose once you start to get in shape.

If you have any questions, please contact Boomer at for Senior Club or Mrs. Walker at for limited contact work. Again, this includes both Men's and Women's teams.
